Term 3 Highlights Part 2 : NAIDOC Ceremony at Riverstone High School

The Riverstone High School NAIDOC Celebration Assembly was held on Tuesday 18th July.

The Assembly was capably led by students Rachel Munce and Jay Dee and featured several presentations and performances to educate the audience and commemorate the work that the Liven' Deadly students have been undertaking in the past year.

Jie Pittmann provided the Acknowledgement of Country and the Liven' Deadly students gave the Welcome Dance.

The NAIDOC Theme for 2017 'Our Languages Matter' was discussed by Tiarna Hinton-French and Crystal Dee.

Tony Allen offered a captivating performance lecture on Aboriginal language, customs and cultural artefacts. He instructed volunteers in two traditional dances. DP Kylie Adams, along with two student volunteers sampled some sizable witchety grubs, and HT Maths Bryson McMillen worked with Troy to light a fire using traditional methods.

Before Karen Downie's closing address, the Liven' Deadly students presented their PRIDE RAP - written, performed and recorded by the team. Special guests were treated to a DVD copy as a gift.

It was a wonderful, enlightening and inspiring celebration of indigenous culture and languages.
